I highly recommend everyone play just the opening parts of that game. Indigo Prophecy's first opening bits are what I wish their work could consistently be, but I'll settle for having great moments like that sprinkled throughout. I got the detective guy killed halfway through Heavy Rain because I pressed left instead of up. You can miss entire scenes by failing, or even miss huge chunks of the story if you get a main character killed early. Plus it's incredible that there are no fail states. I unironically love all of Quantic Dream games despite their flaws because of the moments where you have to think and/or react fast. But I completely understand and appreciate your perspective. Idk man, I'm always gonna go against the grain with this one. Opposing the majority of gamers in general, I actually really enjoy QTEs and P/C in games (one of the many reasons I absolutely LOVE Life is Strange and all the Telltale games), so this game was cool either way in that department. But as an experience all in all, I enjoyed it quite a bit. It's certainly a weird and twisted story, filled with some cliches here and there, and other laughable plot points and inconsistencies. Definitely wasn't executed in the best way, but it was bold at the very least. Of course, going into it the first time is jarring af, but it would make sense that the US army would try to weaponize a child with those sorts of abilities. There were also so many other things that bothered me like the sheer variety of settings and levels, like that goddamn submarine mission. The incredibly jarring tonal shifts (like with the huge Native American desert monster thing), the part where you had to deliver a fucking baby, how Willem Dafoe's character acts all crazy at the end and then just.accepts it all and dies lmao. There were scenes were I legit cackled though. I liked the characters, especially Willem Dafoe (up until the end I guess) and the guardian black guy.

The graphics tech was so far ahead of its time too on PS3, considering the only real thing the PS4 version added was motion blur and some other smaller things. If nothing, I loved the acting and animations (because holy shit are the animations fucking beautiful). I loved the idea that Aiden wasn't just some random ghost or whatever, and that he was connected to Jodie in a very special way. I'm a naturally sentimental person, so the themes and ideas in the game really got me (however absurd they were). Booted it up to see how bad it really was. I actually happen to stumble upon it in my library on a boring Sunday afternoon. It's absolute shit on every level, and I simply would not have it any other way. But trust me, it's completely worth playing, just to get the most gut-punchingly funny experience ever. It really is the lowest of the low when it comes to AAA games in terms of quality. The game is absolutely godawful, and you should totally, 100% play it. Raycevick said something very similar in his RE6 review, and that same idea applies to Beyond. Yet somehow, everything in this game fits together neatly: The high quality graphics, shitty controls, QTEs, terrible writing, Tommy Wiseau level direction, and complete, and utter lack of any self-awareness all just blend together to make the most mindbendingly idiotic, and hilarious experience. Everything about the story is just incredibly moronic. Never before have I cackled so hard at scenes meant to be serious. It's been a few years since I first played it, and I thought it was dumb back then.
